4. Training event 1

 Training event 1

Hi !

Today was our first training event as Unit 34. I was really excited in the morning to find out more information about the Jamboree and especially meeting the Leaders and other people in the Unit. It was from 10am - 5pm. When I arrived, I was greeted with some familiar faces of people from my rugby team. We  walked over to find other people playing  game that had been set out by the leaders for us. A tennis ball had been placed in some tights and you had to put it on your head and try to knock over the water bottles. This was really funny to watch.

Next we were all gathered in a semi circle by the leaders; Naomi, Steph, Jake, and Dean. They said hello and gave us some scarves that had everyone names on it. However, they went our names when presented and we had to go and find the other scouts and invest each other into Unit 34. This was a nice way to get to know people. One of the things I was looking forward to the most was to receive my scarf.

After this we went inside and played some board games against each other and moved around the room to get to know everyone. My favourite game had to be the the snakes and ladders. Everybody in Unit 34 is really nice,

Then we had lunch and Eddie ( one of the other scouts ) gave me a croissant that tasted really good.

After this we were all put into small groups and discussed with the leaders certain topics of the WSJ:
fundraising ideas, food planning and what we liked and didn't like, how we think we should behave and any day trips and events leading up to the Jamboree. The leaders said that they want to make this Jamboree the most inclusive and youth Shaped Jamboree ever, meaning that we can come up with the ideas on what we want to do as a group.

Next we went inside the Scout hall and got brainstorming on what unit 34 would be called. Everybody discussed this on the separate tables and we came to the conclusion that our Unit would be called ' Oh Deer ! '. It was called this because in Bromley and Bexley the Muntjac deer can be found and was introduced in the 20th Century from Asia. We all liked the sound of it and came up with the pun ' Oh Deer!'.
We then all went outside and played this game where you all had to hold this pole and Dean called out left or right and you had to go in that direction and catch it before it fell on the floor, otherwise you were out. I did well at the start but as Dean called it I accidently dropped it which was pretty embarrassing.
After this we all lined up and took a group photo.

Finally we went indoors and put our thinking caps on what 'Oh Deer's' badge would look like
This is one of the ideas Hannah came up with:

At the end from 4pm - 5pm our parents came along and there was a presentation and more information was given out.

I cant wait for the next meeting and meeting everyone again.
