10. Cudham cooking day
Cudham cooking day
Hi !
Today the Unit had a cooking competition planned at Cudham Shaws campsite. This was to try out and to practice cooking the Korean food we will be eating while we are out there.
I was dropped off at 9:30 ish. I was a bit early so I helped put up the big marquee. At around 9:45 everyone started to arrive. We all said hello and caught up quickly before getting all the boxes, food and tables from the van. Next we all gathered in a circle so Naomi could say hello and so Steph could put us into our patrols for the day.
In our patrol we had myself, Billy, Big George, Leo and Joseph. Next we had been assigned a table and 2 recipes to make. We had to make Korean chicken nuggets and noodles. We had to go and find the ingredients ourselves and do all the cooking and preparation on our own as well ( with a little help from the leaders ). At around 11:45 we had made the food and started to eat it. In all the other groups everyone made different food than us so we got to go around and chose what we wanted to eat from all 4 groups.
Surprisingly the food tasted AMAZING ! All the spices and flavours were great.
After we had eaten we had to wash and clean up. This took a while as there was sooo many bowls and equipment that we had used.
Next we were told that there were some letters that were hidden around the campsite and we had to go and find them. after around 15 minutes no one seemed to have found any so we all naturally gravitated towards the zipline. Big George pushed us on the zipline and it was crazy. We went above the actual line. We then all played chicken. We all stood in front of the zipline and waited until the last minute to get out of the way. This was really funny and Big George did this really well.
We then all decided to play manhunt in the forest like we did on the camp before. After we all got caught we walked back up to the marquee and got given a challenge.
We had to lash together an A frame with these massive wooden poles and "walk" them by pulling on the ropes. After having a bit of a practice we raced them with the other patrols.
We won !
Finally, we packed up the marquee and put everything away. I said goodbye and thank yous to the leaders and other people and then got picked up.
