 KIJ 2022

Day 1

The Kent International Jamboree or KIJ for short is a Jamboree made up of about 4,500 scouts. Mostly from the UK but some may come from overseas.

Today ( Sat 30th July ) there were 6 of us (Me, Jacob, Matias, Thomas, Isaac and Jaiden). When we turned up there were hundreds of tents, we were so amazed to see so many scouts in one place. We were here for 5 days to try and raise more money at a sweet stall from 1pm to 10pm everyday. Because this was the first day of the camp and lots of people had money we sold a lot of sweets.

As it was the first day of the camp there was the open ceremony. The atmosphere was amazing and I can't wait for the much bigger version of it at the World Scout Jamboree.

At about 5pm a massive rain cloud covered the sky. For the next hour we had torrential rain. This just made everything funny and we had to run back to the tent while getting soaked.

Day 2

Today we were very busy. In the first hour of selling sweets we made over £700. This was crazy! We carried on throughout the day still selling lots of sweets. Just after around 3pm we ( me, Jacob, Matias, Thomas and Isaac) went to go exploring around the site a bit. We then went to the heritage centre where I bought to packs of badges so I could then trade some with other people. Next we went back to the stall and helped sell more sweets. Overall this was the most successful day in raising money.

these were the sweets we were selling

We then all had dinner that we had brought along with us and went home around 10pm.

Day 3

Today Me, big George, Callum, Arianne, and Alice were at the stall. Arianne hadn't been to any of the other events with the unit so it was nice getting to know other people. Not very many people turned up today as it was the first day of activities for the KIJ. However we still had a fair amount of people turn up. We went to the heritage centre and complete this quiz where you could get a badge for the silver and gold quizzes by looking for the answers on the boards of information. We completed it as a team and got the badges.

We went back to the stall and had some dinner. It was coming to the end and George, Arianne and myself  went to fill our water bottles up. I was the last one to fill it up and the others ran away. As George and Arianne ran away someone kicked a football to Arianne and she tripped up and hurt her knee. We then went back to the sweet stall and she realised she had lost her phone. We could find it so we went up to admin and it wasn't there so we came back and looked again. Next we went to a subcamp and asked if they had it. They did...

Finally we packed up and went home.

Day 4

Not very many people turned up at the stall to buy sweets today but we (George, Callum, me and Alice) went around the site and explored a bit. Around lunch time we went to the shop because the waste truck came along and it stank. I found a rugby ball on the floor so I picked it up and we played around with it  for the rest of the afternoon. We then packed up and went home.

At the end of KIJ these were the collection of badges I had

Day 5

Day 5 had to be the best day fun wise. We ( Adrianne, Jasmine, me, Thomas and Isaac ) had practically no one  turn up to the stall so we all went out exploring again and walked around the campsite a lot while talking about the WSJ and other stuff. We got some food then went on the dodgems a few times. This was really funny as we kept on bumping into each other. Next we went on another walk around the site to see if we could have a go on any activities, but sadly they all closed at 5pm. When we got back we found that there was going to be a massive disco at the main stage so we went down and it was really weird because everyone was in neon stuff as that was the theme. So we all went out and tried to ask people for anything neon that we could have. After about 20 minutes we found a guy who gave us some glow sticks. This was perfect so we rushed down to the disco and ran straight to the front. It was soooo much fun. There were so many mosh pits and its hard to explain without the videos, so here they are.

We stayed as long as we could before we had to go. We packed up; said goodbye and thank you to everyone before leaving. We were dropping Arianne home so we took her then after that headed back to ours to fall asleep almost straight away.

I cant wait to go to the next event.
