17. London scavenger hunt
London scavenger hunt
Hi !
This event involved traveling up to London for an activity that had been planned as a complete surprise! All we got told is that we had to bring a packed lunch, money, phone, uniform and travel card. I was so excited for this day as I could wait to see what the surprise was.
In the morning we had to get to either Lewisham station or Abbey Wood. Because I live in Bexley I went to Abbey Wood. A few of the leaders and other scouts were there too. I went into the station and bought an all day travel ticket. I said goodbye to dad and we then got the train up to London.
We were all told to download the "goose chase " app before hand. When we got up to London, we met up with the other scouts that took the Lewisham train. We said hello to each other and then were swiftly put into patrols for the day. In our patrol we were out with a leader so it wouldn't just be us walking around London on our own. We had Arianne, Zoe H, Darys, Jack, Daniel, and me and Chris was our Leader. We were given these little laminated emergency cards in case we got lost. We then had to put in a special code on the goose chase app to join our patrol team.
The leaders then explained what we had to do. We were given lots of tasks on the goose chase app, then we had to go all around London and try and complete as many tasks as we could. All the tasks were worth different points and the aim was to try and beat the other patrols.
We set off and started completing all the tasks. We had to go to places like The Shard, Tower of London, the Korean Embassy, London Bridge, Buckingham Palace and lots more places. We also had to complete smaller tasks like taking selfies with a police officer or take a selfie in a black cab and really cringey things like dancing in public or singing a campfire song with a stranger, but we all got into the spirit of it and did it anyway.
First we all went to the tower of London and we actually met another Scout Unit going to the jamboree. But yeah, we kept on completing challenges. I loved it when we went over London bridge
After travelling around London we all met up at Hyde Park and had lunch. When we got there we found at least a few hundred other UK scouts going to the jamboree going from different units. This was soo cool as we got to have a chat with everyone and get to know a few people. We had lunch then took a big group photo.
After we had lunch we we allowed to go off on our own in our patrols and carry on with the scavenger hunt. This was good as we had more freedom. We went to Buckingham palace then the Korean embassy, before heading back on the bus to Oxford Circus.
We then all met up and walked to China Town. We were all going to this Korean restaurant. This was really good fun as we got the have a meal together and try new foods. I quite liked the foods and would try them again if I had the opportunity to ( except the clear noodle things - they were pretty gross )
I had never actually been to China Town before so this was a really cool experience!
We finished our dinner and were allowed to go round China Town and explore a bit to find some pudding for 15 minutes. After this we all met up and walked to the station. The Bexley people got the Abbey Wood train again and the Bromley people got the Lewisham train. So we said goodbye and thank you before getting on the train home.
