18. Group camp 2
Green acres camp site 2
We are at Green acres for our second unit camp !
Day 1
Today we arrived at the Green acres camp site at around 6:30pm. We arrived and it was raining! However we still put up all the tents and got on with helping the leaders get the equipment out of the van. The campsite is very close to Cudham Shaws but its a lot smaller however has still lots of space for activates. This camp I am sharing a tent with Billy, my friend. After we finished putting up the tent and catching up with the other unit members we all went to the big gazebo to help put it up.
We then had flag break to start the weekend off. We were put into Patrols, we were patrol 1 and had ( Billy, Toby, Zoe T, Callum, Arthur, Darys, Jasmine, Eddie and me ). Next we all went to the building and got some hot dogs. Some of us then went around and talked and caught up. At around 11pm a few of us sat around on the grass and talked and made jokes. It was really nice getting to know the people who I will be spending the Jamboree with. We were all looking up at the stars and Thomas and I both were looking in the same direction and we saw a shooting star. This was soo cool because I had never seen one before. After that at around 12am a few people brought their chairs out and were talking again until around 2 am ish. As we walked over the other huddle of our unit one of the big tents collapsed with people still in it. Everyone found this funny. Billy and I then headed to sleep at around 2am. Can't wait for tomorrow ...
Day 2
Today I woke up at around 7 ish and got quickly dressed before meeting everyone at the flag circle. We discussed what we were going to do and left to make breakfast. We cooked sausages and eggs. It tasted really good.
We then went back to our tents and sorted things out, then I spotted a Rugby ball in the building. I asked Steph if we could use it and she said yes. We all played around a bit and kicked the ball up in the air to see who could volley it. This was hilarious as everyone kept falling over. We then were called to split into two groups. First we went into the building and talked about mental health and how to look out for each other during, before and after the WSJ. After this we swapped over activities. Because in Korea we will be out there for a while we have to wash our clothes. This activity gave us an opportunity to try out different methods of washing our clothes. For examples putting it in this special bag and putting this washing solution. This worked surprisingly well.
After this we played a bit more rugby before having some lunch. For lunch I just had a ham and lettuce wrap, crisps, a chocolate bar and an orange. Everyone sat in the big gazebo and chatted before a food fight broke out but we ate it all anyway. It was soo funny !
At 2pm we set of in our patrols on a hike. This was great fun. We walked through lots of fields and down roads. It was great talking people on the way, listening to the music blasting on the speaker and just generally having a good time. We walked through lot of the countryside in Downe until we came right next to Biggin Hill Airport. We then followed it down to a golf course until we found ourselves on a nice hill.
We decided to sit down for a while and wait a few minutes for sunset. This was such a vibe just chatting and laughing loads while looking up at the amazing sky. We eventually left and made our way back to the campsite.

When we got back we found the others and started to cook dinner. We cooked some Korean food in our patrols. What I loved about the cooking is that we were just supplied the food and we had to choose what to do with it. Our patrol decided to cook some chicken coated in cornflower so it was a bit like a chicken nuggets (although it didn't look like the ones we get in the shops!). We also cooked some egg fried rice which pretty much just turned out like wet rice but we tried. We then added vegetables and ate it. While the food was cooking Callum and I made a really spicy sauce to go with the chicken. We spent at least a good 20 minutes perfecting the sauce. It tasted amazing ! ( especially with the chicken and rice ). We then washed up and chilled for a bit after that.
A few of us went into the woods and chilled for a bit. We then went to the benches and chilled there until around 1:00am. We got really hungry so we liberated some biscuits and chocolate from the stores! After this we went to bed.
Day 3
This morning I packed everything away just before 6:00am. I then got changed and checked out what was going on outside. We then had flag break at 8am. Next we made some breakfast. We cooked bacon and eggy bread. This tasted great but took a long time to clean up. Then everyone put down their tents; this meant that we had got everything packed up ready to go. After I finished packing the tent away I went around and helped other people.
We then all formed around the flag to see what we were doing next. We were told that when we get to South Korea obviously there will be lots of other groups and to tell our unit apart from everyone else's we had to make a 'camp gateway'. We used some big pioneering poles to lash together our own design and make the gate way. We were allowed to use 6 poles and there had to be a way to connect a banner on to it aswell. We first tried to make a 4 way tepee kind of thing but we found it hard to attach another beam at the top so the banner could fit on. This meant we had re-think the design, but it was a change for the better.
After this we chilled out for a bit and helped put everything away in the van.
We then had flag break and thanked all the leaders before heading home. On the way out one of the leaders let us try these Korean Sweets. It tasted really good and had a kind of wafer and white chocolate consistency.
A big thank you to all the leaders and Unit for making it a great camp
