27. Group Camp 3
Group Camp 3
Hi!
Our 3rd group camp was in Dulwich
Day 1
Our 3rd camp was held indoors this time at the South London Scout centre. We arrived there on Friday at 6pm. I was one of the first ones to arrive so I helped out with carrying food from the Sainsburys truck and equipment. I then moved my bags into the room that I was sleeping in. There were two rooms filled with bunk beds; one for the boys and one for the girls. With a hall and a kitchen in the middle.
As everyone started to arrive they got everything setup and put their bags away. I had bottom bunk with my friend Billy above me. After a while we were all called into the hall. The leaders said hello and said that they were making pitta pizzas for supper which were delicious. After we had finished we were asked to sit down. They were announcing the patrols! In our patrol we had Arianne, Me, Jack, Toby, Billy, Matias, Daniel, Dariss and Issac. I am really happy with our patrol and I am assistant Patrol Leader!
After this everyone headed to bed but a few of us stayed up until finally going to bed at around 2am.
Day 2
I woke up at around 6 am and got dressed then went to the hall to see what I could do to help. Patrol 1 & 2 were to make breakfast and 3 & 4 ( us ) were to make lunch for the day. The butter was really hard when trying to make the sandwiches so everyone ended up with really holey bread and it all ripped which was funny. We then had breakfast which was nice then got told what the plan was for the day. We were having a talk with Matt who was in charge with look after the Units in London. We talked about what were are excited for and what questions or worries we had. Next, we went outside and had a quick break. We all went outside and played football until moving onto the next activity which was tomahawk and angel stars throwing. I loved this and found it really fun learning how to throw the tomahawks as I have only thrown the angel stars before. I did alright but there was definitely room for improvement.
After this we went indoors at around 1:30 and quickly got are bags, grabbed our lunches that we had made and left. I'm glad I packed my bag the night before because it was a big rush so we could get to London in time.
As Arianne wasn't there I was acting PL. We got the train and arrived in London, it was very busy. We were then told that we were going to the V & A Korean exhibition. We were excited to see what it was all about. The museum was only a short walk form the station so we arrived got there fairly quickly. When we got into the museum it had a very extravagant interior with grand statues and polished marble surfaces all around. We walked around the museum and found some benches at the back to have lunch on. Next we walked around and found the Korean Wave Exhibition. There were lots of flashing lights, music and people in the rooms. There were lots of interesting things such as, information on the Korean War and the Gangnam Style suit the guy wore. There was a big screen with K-pop playing on it. We walked around a bit more, reading the information and taking in the culture of Korea.
After this we were allowed to go around London and do what we wanted. We all decided to find food so we went to five guys. Then later to Tesco's.... Finally, we returned back to the Scout Hut. When we arrived the leaders had blocked out the windows and locked the doors. We had to go round the back way through the door but weren't allowed to go into the hall. As soon as I got indoors I took my shoes off and relaxed on my bed. After a while we were called into the hall to be greeted with a Christmas dinner !!! Now we all thought it was crazy having a Christmas dinner in February but we didnt have an opportunity to have one as a unit so it was very nice to all sit down together. We then pushed the chairs back so it formed a big circle around the Christmas tree. There were presents under the tree! They were handed out and we all ripped them open. We got our bucket hats, hoodies and t-shirts !!! This was sooo cool. The trip to South Korea really feels real now. I can't wait !!! In the hall Dean kindly bought along some badges so we had some to trade in Korea. I also received the 75 unit badges that I ordered.
After this we went to bed but I stayed up with a few of the others until about 3am.
Day 3
In the morning I woke up at around 7 and immediately got ready and up so I could help with making food or setting up. We were asked to pack away our things ready to leave at 1pm. I then went into the hall and helped make breakfast. At around 11am a man came in and gave us some first aid training. This was great as if anything were to happen in Korea or anywhere else we can help. We practised CPR on some dummies and learnt about DRSABC ( danger, response, shout, airways, breathing, circulation ).
We said goodbye to the first aid man then brought our bags into to hall ready to go. Before we left we were told about our next camp and what we needed to do to prepare for it. I really enjoyed this camp and can't wait for the next event !
P.S thanks gran for making these amazing biscuits for camp. They went down a treat !
