29. Group camp 4

 Group Camp 4

Hi!

I was really excited to attend the next group camp! This one was being held at Thriftwood campsite in Essex.

Friday evening

We picked up Billy, Matias and Callum then headed to the campsite. There was pretty bad traffic however we arrived on time. When we arrived, there was a a big tent in the middle. This was the sort of tent that we would have in Korea. This camp was meant to replicate what the layout would be in Korea. This was a great way to practice for the actual event.

Next I helped get things from the van like food etc before setting my own tent up. After this I went around and tried to help other people. This camp we had to make the food together  in patrols. We had the job of cooking on the Friday which I think was the best time to do it as we could get it out of the way. We cooked this noodle and bacon sort of thing. It wasn't that bad but the water took forever to boil which was a bit annoying. After this everyone went to the campfire. At around 1 we all went to bed.

Day 1

The first day we were all up early and had breakfast prepared by the other group. We then got ready for our first activity ! Rafting! I got changed into my swimming trunks and t-shirt along with the special wetsuit shoes then we headed down towards the lake. This was one of the rainiest days I've ever seen. With rain comes mud so I was caked in before we even arrived there. The rafting was so much fun, we had to lash the big poles and barrels together so it would stay afloat. Our team was one of the last to go in and test it out but it worked! Someone had to go in the lake to help keep it flat so I full sent and jumped in. Apparently the water was 3 degrees Celsius. The raft lasted a while until it finally fell apart and we all fell in. This was soooo funny but very very cold. The leaders were worried about us so we hurried up and put everything away before quickly getting in the showers. Getting in the shower was the best thing ever! Little George almost got hypothermia but he was ok in the end.

Next we got ready and then the next patrol made lunch. We all sat by the fire to warm up which was really nice. After we had lunch we split into two different groups and went to our next activities. Our first activity was Jacobs ladder. I had never done Jacobs ladder before so I was really excited to have a try. It was difficult and first but once I got the hang of it, things became easier. Isaac and I both got to the top. We then waited for a bit and had to hold the rope while the others had goes.

Next we swapped with the other group and had a go at the crate stack. I had also never done this before so it was a fun experience. One of instructors was a bit crazy and everyone said he looked like Ron Weasley, the whole time we were there subtle Harry potter jokes. We got really high with the crates but eventually fell over.

After we had finished we went back to camp and chilled out for a bit round the fire. The next group made dinner and we all sat round the fire again. As it got late we eventually went to bed. However, before this we were told by the leaders that we had to get up early the next day as we had to go on a hike in the morning to retrieve our food so it would replicate what it would be like in South Korea.

Day 2

This morning I woke up at around 5 O'clock so we were early enough to get the food on the hike. We planned our root ourselves and set off. We were doing really well until we got to the first checkpoint and they weren't there. Turns out they were a little late but it ok because the time was added on in the end. We walked around for a bit and got all our food. We returned back to the campsite and cooked delicious pancakes and bacon.

After this we all started to pack up before having some lunch and heading home. However before we left I got presented my gold award! This was really cool as i had been working towards it and it was Infront of the whole unit!

I can't wait until the next event!
