31. 50-50 hike

 50-50 hike

Hi!

As part of my fundraising we decided to complete a huge sponsored challenge. Walking 50km in 50% of the day ( 12hours) hence the name 50-50 hike. The furthest I have ever walked is about 28km but this was over two days. I said that I was going to train for this big event but I didn't get around to doing it but we still did it. My dad and I planned on hiking 50km along the Thames path and through London.

We were dropped of by my mum at 7;30 ish in Erith so we could start at 8am and hopefully finish around 8pm. Once we found out where we were we started walking. As we were about to start I turned to my dad gave him a fist pump and said " lets do this!". We started hiking quite fast at first. Around 7kmh. This is because we knew that are energy would be high at the start and would probably drop nearer the end. To be honest there's not a lot to say accept we did lots of walking from there on.....

However because we were walking so fast at the start we originally planned on having lunch in Greenwich at 2 but we ended up arriving at 12. We sat down and had an amazing lunch prepared by dad. This was very much needed. We sat outside the Cutty Sark which was nice as we could admire the scenery and have a well needed rest. After about 15 minutes we put our rucksacks back on and got hiking again. It was tough starting again because we were both already achy. We got back into the rhythm of things and pushed on.

Fast forward lots more walking and more walking and more walking, we finally reached tower bridge. Along our journey we had seen lots of the spots in London like the Thames Barrier, The 02, Tower bridge, London Bridge, Cutty sark etc. It felt quite strange as it was although we were tourists, touring our own city.

Every hour throughout the journey we look a selfie so we could show that we were actually completing it. See below :

When we got to the finish line we had to climb a flight of stairs, this was crazy as we were soooo achy. It was hilarious trying to get onto the train and walking around as dad was practically dead and limping and I was dying too. We got the train home then a taxi back to the house.

This was the hardest thing I had ever done but it was totally worth it. It was great fun to do it with my dad.

Thank you sooooo much for everyone who supported and donated to me. Also a big thanks to my Dad for walking 50km with me a supporting me the whole way. You're a legend!

P.S thank you again Gran for making the cookies!
